Tazegul – Guardian of Turkmen Traditions from Bokurdak

In the remote village of Bokurdak, surrounded by desert winds and the scent of saxaul trees, lives Tazegul — a woman whose life is dedicated to preserving the cultural soul of Turkmenistan.

Together with her large family of eleven, she raises camels, ducks, and sheep, while also planting and nurturing saxaul — the symbolic desert tree used for warmth and cooking for generations.

But Tazegul’s true legacy lies in her hospitality. For visitors, she prepares traditional Turkmen dishes — dograma, ishlekli, tamdyrlama, pishme, and fragrant pilaf — all cooked with love over saxaul embers, just as her great-grandmother taught her.

Every meal she serves tells a story — of family, of resilience, of the beauty of simple things. Her goal is not only to nourish, but to keep alive the spirit and wisdom of her ancestors.

Tazegul is more than a host — she is a cultural guardian, ensuring that the soul of Turkmen hospitality is preserved and shared with future generations.
